The Washington Heights BID is announcing the unveiling of ‘The Pod’, a new public art installation in Northern Manhattan as part of New York City Department of Transportation’s Art Program called Artervention. It will be installed at the intersection of Dyckman and Broadway, in front of the Ring Garden.
‘The POD’ is a large, hollow metal sculpture that measures 10 feet high and is 3 feet at its widest diameter. It has been given a rough surface texture and is highlighted with bronze. The seed pod is a simple and elegant organic shape representing new growth that reflects the artistic revitalization of the Harlem neighborhood. Villalta and Daubón, who met at the Art Students League of New York, view public art as a bridge – a tangible mode of community outreach that encourages reaction and interaction.
Special thanks to the Artist Team, Pedro Villalta and Montserrat Daubón, the New York City Department of Transportation’s Art Program and our sponsor Lemle Wolff.
